How can something that smells so sweet be so expensive? Here we can see one of the most basic advantages of wearing perfume – simply that it is good to smell. And that contributes to its most basic disadvantage – the better it smells, the more expensive it is.
Many women get around the disadvantage of high costs by choosing the less expensive varieties so they can wear perfume more frequently. This gives them one of great advantages of wearing perfume because a good perfume can really lift your mood and make your day go much better than without it – and since you chose the less expensive varieties, that means you will be in a much better mood for many of your days than if you chose a more costly variety.
Some of the less expensive brands may actually sell better than more expensive brands because of the way they are marketed and where. If the perfume is marketed as a part of your daily toilet and hygiene routine, you might be more inclined to purchase it more often and integrate it into your daily life (thus consuming more of it, than the more expensive varieties, which are often marketed as luxury products geared for the high end markets.) There are also more not-so-well-off people in the world than well-off people so it would be more likely for them to purchase mass-marketed perfume than luxury perfume brands.
Women are generally considered as the main market for probably most of the perfume sold in the world today, due to the belief that perfume is more of something women would use. This is one of the more obvious advantages of wearing perfume – it reinforces the image of women as sweet smelling people.
To help them profit more due to an increase in sales, the manufacturers may opt to create cheaper facsimiles of their more expensive products – the cheaper versions may be remarkably similar in scent to the luxury versions so that people will think they are getting practically the same thing but at a more affordable cost. This is a common business strategy that allows manufacturers to maintain a healthy bottom line while still being able to offer quality products to all their customers.
Men are now finding other advantages in wearing perfume – because it also elevates their mood, and may even make them feel more attractive to women. If you are a man who wears perfume, and you constantly get compliments about how nice you smell, that is one thing that would do wonders for your confidence level. And confidence is definitely attractive to many women.
One common form of perfume for men is the daily after-shave (not usually considered a formal type of perfume, but still a perfume anyway because it contains fragrance.) Interesting that many strong-smelling after-shave products are still considered good perfumes even if the partners of the men complain of the scent – but then fragrance is a personal form of expression so the men rule in this respect anyway.
Many men and women opt to use a less expensive type of perfume for daily use, and reserve the costlier ones for their luxury activities (like attending a night at the theater, or a business function.) Though this definitely cuts into their weekly budget, for them it might be an advantage because it is an investment into their personal care system. It also gives people a more pleasant image of them, so that might work to their advantage as well.
Perfume can be considered a disadvantage to people who may have very sensitive skin or certain skin allergies, so it is always wise to test the perfume on a small part of your skin first to see how you react. Dermatologists do this all the time to see how you will react to a certain medication. Even though the percentage of people who do show a reaction may be quite small compared to the larger population, it is always wise to test any product (perfume or not perfume) on a certain patch of skin before buying it. And it is always wise to buy a small volume or amount of any perfume first to see how you take to it over time. If you tire of it, or find something wrong with it eventually, you will be glad there is less waste due to your small purchase. You can even give away the remainder and then just start shopping for a better perfume afterwards.
There are many advantages to wearing perfume and you may agree with them all – but the most important advantage to it is that it can make you feel much better about yourself, compared to going without it.
